Random Audits on the Rise in 2014

13 May 2016

In an effort to ensure that healthcare providers are in compliance with Meaningful Use requirements, random audits have reached an all-time record moving into 2014.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is requiring health care providers that file for “meaningful use” to provide online electronic health record access to their patients. In an effort to increase the adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHR), the federal government is requiring that all hospitals and doctors that have received incentive dollars from the federal government to comply with the rules. (CMS) requires that all hospitals and doctors provide their patients online access to their health records. In addition to providing online health records, each patient is required to receive a (CCD) “Continuity of Care Document” for each patient visit. These documents provide the patient a listing of the clinical data recorded for each patient visit.

Since 2011, billions of dollars have been paid to hospitals and healthcare providers around the USA in an effort to encourage the adoption of Electronic Health Records. To ensure these doctors and hospitals are meeting these requirements, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has increased random audits. When accessing your health records online, the following information is required in order to comply with these guidelines:

Past Medical History
Current Medications
Past Medications
Allergies
Lab Results
Test Results
