CMS Increases Online Access Percentages

13 May 2016

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has raised the bar again by mandating healthcare providers to increase the number of patients that have online access to their health records. As we welcome 2014, new mandates with meaningful use stage II require each clinic to increase their total percentage of patients that have online access to their health records.

These new mandates are aggressively driving physicians to educate their patients about the technology advantages of having online access to their health records. As more and more patients gain access to their health records, patient are beginning to see the true value of using this technology to monitor the information stored about their health.
In 2009 the federal government introduced the High tech Act that has become the catalyst and driving force in the adoption of electronic health records and patient portals. For physicians that invested in this certified healthcare technology and demonstrated meaningful use standards, the federal government rewarded these physicians by providing funding up to $44,000.00 per physician.
